Manu Ginobli absolutely embarrassed the guard play today against America. He was on fire.

What is the deal with Larry Brown's fascination of playing Shawn Marion for so many minutes? The guy is not a legitimate starter on that basketball team. Even with Tim Duncan's foul trouble (which has been a problem the whole time), it was painful watching Marion and Wade get burned so often.

Predictable, and I don't even know if this team can get the Bronze Medal. At this point, it would do more to help this team by losing that consolation game than winning it. They should just play a line-up of James, Marbury, Okafor, Duncan, and Anthony.

Boy did Iverson get burned during these games or what.

I'm not a regular watcher of basketball but I was struck by a couple of things.

1- The NBA 3-point line is further back than in the international game, yet the USA team still couldn't find any consistant 3-point shooting in the tournament. To me, that's a management and selection issue more so than a fault of the guys who played. I heard that certain NBA players passed on going to the Olympics but I can't believe that in the depth of USA basketball they couldn't find an extra three point shooter somewhere. Except for Marburry (Probably mutilated the spelling there) against Spain, they were hopeless from the 3-point line.

2- The other teams just wanted this more than the USA. For me the USA team just never looked as sharp or as hungry as their opposition. The point has been made a lot by the media, the players and the coaches that the gap in quality in international basketball has really tightened up, enough that now the USA can't just send a team and expect gold as a default. Long term, that's probably the best news the sport of basketball could have I suppose because a competitive tournament is bound to be a better draw.
